Our five day STCW Basic Safety Training package provides all those attending with the practical skills and knowledge to comply with the mandatory requirements of the four modules of STCW Basic Training.
Colossal delivers the four elements of STCW Basic Safety Training as a one week course in Blackpool, UK. Each of the four modules can also be attended individually, if needed. Colossal is approved as a training provider by the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA).
Basic Safety Training consists of four elements:
1. STCW Personal Survival Techniques – This course is intended to equip all persons intending to go to sea with basic sea survival skills and knowledge of sea survival principles. (Standalone cost: £192 Inc. VAT).
2. STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting – Types and classes of fires, prevention, hazard awareness, methods of fire extinguishment, structure of incident response team, appropriate equipment, personal safety, team support, and live exercises. Please note this element takes place in Liverpool. (Standalone cost: £450 Inc. VAT).
3. STCW Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities (PSSR) – Types of shipboard emergencies, alarms and signals, initial actions, personal/protective safety equipment, effects of pollution, pollution prevention, safe working practices, enclosed spaces, accident prevention, harassment, individual rights, drug and alcohol awareness and dealing with abuse. (Standalone cost: £132 Inc. VAT).
4. STCW Elementary First Aid – Basic, immediate, and emergency response to the most common shipboard injury emergencies. (Standalone cost: £156 Inc. VAT).
There are no formal educational requirements to undertake this course, although all participants must be 16 years of over. Some aspects of this course are physically demanding. We therefore require all students to complete a physical declaration form. You will leave with a good understanding of safety and emergency procedures. You will be familiar with rescue and evacuation. You will have practised crisis scenarios, handled fire fighting equipment and learnt how to launch a life raft. This course is the minimum level of qualification for those intending to work at sea.
