Seafarers UK’s corporate supporters rise to the challenge!
Over the weekend of 12-13 July, 14 teams from across the commercial maritime sector headed to the Lake District to take part in what is known as one of the toughest fundraising and team-building challenges that there are in the UK: the 24 Peaks Challenge.
More than £66,000 has been raised in support of Seafarers UK and our work, with a further £6,000 in sponsorship coming from the TK Foundation. And donations are still being received – see below.
The challenge was for each team to hike and map-read their way across the 24 highest peaks in the Lake District – each of them over 2,400ft – within 24 hours. The courageous teams had to contend with a mix of sun, cloud, rain, heat and cold, which perhaps made it even harder. Difficult as it was, though, all the teams completed the first and toughest day, with an amazing 12 teams then managing to go on and complete the second day as well – an incredible feat!
Sunday night ended with an evening BBQ and awards on the shore of Lake Windermere. Special congratulations go to the two Carisbrooke Shipping teams for winning the main prize of the weekend – top fundraising teams x2 with £5,947 fundraised each by Sunday evening. The Allmode team also won an award for best team work, putting in an outstanding effort, with all team members getting to the finish line.
A number of this year’s teams are already talking about taking part again next year, they got such a buzz from it. If you want to experience this incredible challenge and feel inspired to get involved then drop us a quick email at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll send you the information.
